The Only Hair Hanging Training In Cyprus

"A measure of courage, a ring of love, and a gem of ice lit by hope's eternal flame... "

What is Hair Hanging / Hair Suspension ?

A traditional circus act where a performer is lifted and hangs in the air by their hair, which is secured to a steel rig. The hair is carefully braided around a metal loop, and the act takes strong neck muscles, physical training, and careful preparation.

Our Osteopathy Collaborator: ORC – Osteopathy & Rehabilitation Center by Charalambos Neokleous

Charalambos combines hands-on osteopathy with modern rehabilitation techniques. He takes the time to listen and carry out a thorough assessment, creating treatment that looks at the whole person, not just their symptoms.

The Evolution

Today, hair hanging is mostly performed by women, with each artist preparing and braiding their hair differently.

Once a rare circus act, hair hanging is becoming more visible in modern circus. However, it is still not widely taught, and knowledge is often passed between artists.

Hair hanging carries real risks. Rigging failure can cause serious accidents, requiring experience, preparation, and great care.

Performers can combine hair hanging with contortion, juggling, and aerial movement to create a unique performance.

Connection to Self Control and Discipline

Hair hanging requires both mental and physical discipline. You need to stay focused, keep your balance, and remain calm while dealing with pressure on the scalp.

For me, it is also about inner strength and self-control,  learning to trust your body, stay present, and keep your mind focused.

Modern Evolution

Today, hair hanging can be seen in contemporary circus and is practiced by aerial artists around the world. It is still a rare art form, but it is becoming more visible and continues to be a powerful way of expressing creativity through movement.

Its exact origins are still debated.

The Journey

Every journey begins with curiosity. Progress comes through patience, consistency, and small steps.

Over time, we work with gravity instead of against it. We build strength, trust our bodies, and stay in control while knowing when to let go.

You will breathe, trust yourself, and be in the air.

The First Steps

You are not expected to master the technique in one session. Some people may hang on their first try, while others need more time, and that is completely okay.

Our focus is learning proper body position and technique, working with your hair and body, and gradually building strength and control.

Is it dangerous?

YES. Hair hanging carries significant risks without proper training and supervision. Safety must always be the foremost priority. Never attempt it alone or without an experienced instructor.

The body needs time to adapt to the pressure involved, so training should be introduced gradually and with care. As responses vary, progression must suit each participant.

Remain attentive to the body's responses and respect individual limits. Differences in hair type, scalp sensitivity, and physical condition mean training must be tailored to each person.

Hair hanging requires time, careful preparation, and qualified instruction. Safety must remain the primary consideration throughout.

Relax, breathe, and believe

Final Note

Hair hanging is a special and powerful skill.

It needs time, control, and trust.

Your body and your mind need to work together.

If you are ready to learn in a safe and supportive way, I look forward to training with you.
